About VRI

Data StorageVRI was founded in late 1980 by New Jersey businessman and entrepreneur Richard G. Burr Jr. Already the owner of a highly successful office supplies company, a "for sale" ad for a nuclear-hardened underground building in Flagtown had him very intrigued. He had a vision for a new use for this building and ultimately purchased it from its original owners, AT&T Long Lines. It was from here that Vital Records was born.

By 1981, VRI had its first 6 customers, including a large Wall Street bank and a major insurance company. Within 5 years, VRI was a major force in the New York metropolitan area, distinguishing itself from others by concentrating solely on the protection and management of critical computer media.

As of 2007, VRI now stores for more than 2,000 data center clients in a 5-state region. We protect and manage in excess of 6 million tapes for some of the largest companies in the world. We have a fiercely loyal client base who realizes that we are the most efficient and competent of the companies they have to choose from. We have the largest and most exceptionally trained Operations staff in the region, with close to 700 years of combined VRI experience to offer our customers. Nearly all of our key Operations, Administrative and Support personnel have worked for VRI for 10-25 years.
